The NASE Worldwide Open Water Scuba Instructor is able to certify non-divers and conduct continuing scuba courses and scuba education.

The training is divided into two parts: Scuba Instructor Training Course and Instructor Evaluation. The Scuba Instructor Training Course trains instructor candidates in multiple areas: Standards and Procedures, teaching methods, underwater risk management and legal aspects of scuba training, confined water and open water demonstration and teaching skills.

After successful completion of the Scuba Instructor Training Course candidates may apply for inclusion in the Instructor Exam (IE) by recommendation of Instructor Trainer.

Qualifications of Graduates

Open Water Scuba Instructors are qualified to:

  • Teach all NASE and NASE Worldwide non-member courses through Rescue Diver.
  • Teach and certify NASE/NASE Worldwide Divemaster.
  • Teach the Night Diver, Deep Diver, and Navigation specialties.
  • Teach all NASE/NASE Worldwide Dive Experience programs.

General Prerequisites

To enroll in the NASE Worldwide Open Water Instructor Course, candidates must meet all the general prerequisites outlined in the Leadership Course Guidelines, additionally:

  • Be certified as a NASE Worldwide Assistant Instructor, or if certified through another agency, or its equivalent
  • Have logged 100 dives or a minimum of 2000 minutes total bottom time
  • Pass the NASE Worldwide Instructor pre-assessment exam
