Go Deeper: This course is designed to provide the additional skills and knowledge for planning and conducting decompression dives to a maximum depth of 60 m/200 ft using helium based mixtures (Trimix). Graduates will be able to utilize both normoxic and hypoxic back gas mixtures not to exceed a PO2 of 1.4 ATA and a PN2 of 2.75 to 3.18 ATA (an approximate END of 24-30 m/80-100 ft). Training involves:
- Academics of helium-based decompression diving including minimizing narcosis
- Dive planning for multiple-gas decompression diving and hypoxic mixes
- Practical application executing decompression dives using multiple decompression gases
Who Can Participate?
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Be certified the NASE xTek 45 Diver level (or equivalent).
- Be able to answer No to all questions on the NASE Medical History form, or secure a physician’s approval for diving prior to the start of the course
What is Involved?
- Self Study: Using a variety of materials.
- Classroom Discussion: Bringing to life what you learn through self study.
- In-Water Training: Students must be able to perform all required skills and log at least two dives to a maximum of 45 m/150 ft under direct instructor supervision.
What Materials and Equipment Will You Need?
- Mask and fins
- Adequate exposure protection
- Technical or sidemount diving harness and air cell
- Manifolded doubles or two sidemount cylinders
- Two independent regulators with separate first/second stages; at least one with 1.5 m/5.0 ft or longer hose; one SPG for each manifold or valve
- At least one properly configured deco/bailout bottle
- Dive computer or depth gauge and timer
- Dive knife or cutting tool
- Underwater slate or wet notes
- SMB or lift bag with reel or spool
Depending on the dive site and planned activities, it may also be prudent to have items such as audible and visual surface signals. Your instructor may have further equipment requirements in addition to these, such as a primary and backup light for night and deep dives. Your instructor may have additional requirements.
